herbal medicene/remedy
Instructions for making herbal medicines are scattered all over the web, Kelly, but I don't know one place that has them all.
I can recommend a book, however, that does. It's called Making Plant Medicine, by Richo Cech---who heads up Horizon Herbs.
Of the two you mentioned. Easiest way to make tinctures is to cover the fresh or dried herbs with alcohol in a roughly 50/50 mixture with water. 90 proof Vodca comes close enough. Cover the herbs completely, and set in a dark place, stirring once a day. The tincture will be ready in three weeks. Strain the herbs out of it. Because of the alcohol content, tinctures keep forever.
Poultices are simple. Chop or grind the herb as necessary. Add just enough water to form a thick paste. Apply thickly (1/2 to one inch thick) and cover with a clean cloth. Red flannel is traditionally recommended.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, Brook!!!
Kely, I will send you the recipe that I use for my joints.
Thanks so much. Is this for arythritis? I could use that. I am getting it, and have been for a while.
Kelly,
Another source you might find of interest is the new Herbal Almanac. This is an annual publication put out by Lewellyn, and the 2002 edition is just out.
There are several articles that detail how to make herbal medicines, including specific formula as well as directions for the application method.
If you can't find it, any bookstore can order it.
there is a good herbal book that has been in existence since 1939 - it is a good herbal bible i would say. a part of it has herbs;- it's latin name, brief description, tells which part of the herb is used, for what specific ailment, and how to use. the other part has certain ailments and recommendations of what herbs to use.

Hi Kelly,
I make herbal infusions and tinctures and balms all the time. I use sweet almond oil to make my infusions and everclear to make my tinctures. I use 16 and 32 oz. amber bottles to place all this in. You fill the bottle up with the herb then cover with the oil or the alcohol and place in a sunny window for 30 days shaking it everyday to release the oil into the liquid you are using. If using the sweet almond oil add 3 or 4 vitimin E caps to it to keep it from going rancid on you. I make hot oil treatments for my hair with the sweet almond oil and jojoba mixture 50/50 and infuse it with Lavender and chamomile...works great! You can add rosemary to it as well for rashes and tea tree for antibacterial qualities. If you would like any of the above email me as I sell it in my shop. By the way....I am new and it's nice to meet you!
