Dear Friends,
My Epiphylum 'Petey Kelly' bloomed in the last couple of days which is present number 2 which I took pictures of with present number 1 my new camera. Look out photo contest this coming year! Anyhow, E. 'Petey Kelly' is fragrant briefly just after it blooms and I look forward to enjoying it for some weeks to come as it has about 5 more buds to go! Check it out!

My two Christmas presents
Very nice....my next door neighbor used to have some in her greenhouse, but now she's too ill to have anything in there....
Petey's first bloom is done. Going to the second bud now. I just discovered flower buds on an old African violet which has been sitting there just green leaves for a number of years. Must be the new bottle of fish emulsion I got to put on everything. One hibiscus has a bud also!

How beautiful.
Also, found one small flower on my bougainvillea! Happy New Year!
Martha
Wow..that is good!
Great pics, Martha, and congrats on the gifts. I love that Epi. So pretty. I have a rooted one that needs potting up. It's needed potting up for a good long time now. I don't even know what color it is.

Woohoo!
It's in the cactus family, but it's called an orchid cactus because of its resemblance to an orchid.

What kind of camera did you get?
Botanically speaking, they are Epiphyllum. Orchid cactus is a large cousin to the Christmas cactuses. They just produce huge flowers. not sure where they got the name "orchid". I have a large red one also and I just love the yellow and pink flowers that 'Petey Kelly' has. and the red isn't fragrant and Petey is.
This picture is my re-blooming phaleanopsis, which is a true orchid. I got the plant from one of the lobby planters where I take care of them this spring. When the flowers are done, we change them out. Plant was just green leaves and has bloomed for Christmas. I have two. the other one has thrown a flower stalk but is some weeks behind this one. I expect it to bloom in Feb.
I got a Nikon Coolpix S9200. I love it.

Nice orchid, Martha. I'm planning on getting one soon.
