this is actually Licuala peltata var. 'elegans' or sumowongensis (sure that spelling is wrong), not Licuala grandis

No contest. If you are absolutely sure, request a move. Kinda surprised Huntington Botanical Gardens Conservatory would error on this one.

omg… i have been keeping track of misidentified plants in the Huntington.. .over 300 so far just in cacti and succulents… about 30 in palms alone. who knows in flowering plants as that is too far from my knowledge center to begin to complain. A palm friend and I were toured about garden during a palm meeting once and we pointed out many of their errors in identification… they did nothing about it. Oh well. I seriously doubt that is high on their priority list… listening to 'so-called' experts on what is what.

So, if you're confident with your ID on this one, by all means do an error report and I'm good with that. The leaf didn't look as round as I thought it would but then I don't know the differences.

Licuala grandis has shorter petioles, a smaller leaf and a finer leaf... softer leaf, too.. I know those palms have photographed them multiple times myself.. Just too beefy to be grandis, though doubt the staff at Huntington know that. Have already added my photos of those two palms to the plantfiles, but I can move yours, too.
