This morning started out at 5 with the vet truck pulling in. We had an older cow freshen yesterday afternoon and she seemed fine when we left the barn last night, but had cast her withers when Stan got out there this morning. That's a total uterine prolapse - all outside. Stan and the vet got her back together and stitched, gave her a couple bottles of calcium to keep the milk fever away and she's still sitting out in the middle of the barn floor recovering. I just happen to be in the barn last night to help with the milk testing. I fed the new calf with the bottle and grained the heifers in the heifer barn. This morning I felt like I'd been run over by a truck and then Julia and Jess and I went snow boot buying and grocery shopping at 7:15. I'm ready for a nap!
We still have snow on the ground here on the hill, although most every place else it's all melted. I hope our's goes away as I'd like to do a little more mulching.
When we were in K-Mart getting the boots, I found some metal shelf units for less than $10 a piece and bought 2. Now I can finish cleaning out the fabric closet and get it all so I can see what I really have. Maybe after I rest a bit.
Take good care,
kathleen
