Twenty three degrees here in Arlington this morning.
The Frostweed picture is from other times, I haven't been out yet!!
How cold was it last night at your place?
My frostweed didn't "freeze" yet. Usually mid- to low 20s does it. It was 25 at 4:00 a.m. this morning when I went out to double-check the heaters in the greenhouses.

I went out a while ago and there wasn't much ice on the Frostweed, although it was cold enough.
I think that there weren't enough juices in the stems because it has been so dry, it certainly was cold enough.
It said 21 when we started up the truck this morning at around 6:30. The water trough for the buck-goat had a layer of ice on it, but two pastures over the does' trough didn't have any.
22 here
42 here last night and looking for 39 tonight . Thinking about you today Lisa .
My reading a 5:am 16
Wow!! that was really cold!!
19º out here in the boonies.
Not quite that cold here. 34 degrees.
Must have got colder here last night then the night before. The pipe to the livestock tank broke. At least the little pond got filled before I could get the water turned off...: (. The goats are terrible about taking the insulation off. Im still proud of myself for getting the water turned off.
Bless you Lisa, it is very upsetting to have broken pipes, I am glad you were able to repair it.
I didnt fix it. I just turned off the water to it so it stopped spraying everywhere, and the Well isnt running constantly. But even that required getting soaked and dirty. I was surprised as that pipe hasnt broken in a couple of years. I had turned the valve off to the trough but when I turned it back on water sprayed everywhere so evidently that didnt help. I can fix some of the breaks but this is beyond my experise.
Wish we were there , could probably help out . Sorry , I hate those situations ,and it's a long way to carry water 'till it's fixed . Hugs .
Thanks Digger. At this point there is plenty of water in the little pond, thanks to the pipe breaking, and we are expecting rain. It will get fixed I have a couple friends that have offered to help. THANKS!
Happy Birthday!
Thank you Guys you are so sweet. I am having a very happy day so far.
Josephine.
Happy birthday, Josephine!
Question about the frostweed. Should I go ahead and trim it back to about 12"-18" so that it will "freeze"?
Happy Birthday, Jo! All the native plants got a friend when you were born and so did we on the Texas forum. Hope it was warm and toasty and you had plenty of Blue Bell Home Made Vanilla!
Happy Birthday, Josephine!
Thank you everyone, I did have a wonderful day.
Stephanie, yes cut the frostweed back, mine didn't do much this time, I think the ground was too dry and not enough juices in the plant to come up and freeze, maybe next time, although I really don't like cold weather.
Happy Belated Birthday, frostweed!
And Lisa, good job with the water pipe/turn off. Had the same thing happen here and had to do the same turn off. DH covered the pipe lines with mounded dirt. We got the idea from when we used to bury and mound up our standard roses up north. We'll see if it works!
Lisa , I didn't see goats when I was there , so you must have added to your collection . I had goats and I just love them . The babies are so cute with all the playful things they do .
Happy birthday, Josephine! I was offline all day yesterday travelling ad didn't see it was your birthday until just now. I hope you did something nice!!!
Digger-the goats were here. Im trying to NOT add anymore. LOL Sometimes the animals won't come up if they dont recognize you.
Thank you Carrie, I appreciate it, a friend took me out to lunch to a place called The Flying Fish, it was really nice.
The Flying Fish? Is it Arlington? Ray and I are always on the lookout for a new "favorite restaurant" since we moved.
Yes, there is one in Arlington and one in Fort Worth, I had the broiled shrimp Kabobs with green beans and new potatoes, very nice. Average price is $10.00.
Yup, mounding dirt works on new trees, pipes - we don't get the hard freezes of up north so most folks just use drip at night methods, or get a piece of foam around exposed parts. We occasionally use a lightbulb in sheds if necessary...
