I received several Amazon Lily bulbs in a trade. I threw them into a pot and had them growing outside. I brought them in when our weather started threatening with the first frost. They are still growing and have gorgeous, lush foliage.
Does anybody know how to grow these bulbs? I am thinking they need a dormant period, but not positive. I know they are not hardy to my zone. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Carolyn
Amazon Lily
Light Requirements: 50% Shade
Height: 24 inches (60 cm)
Flowering Season: Summer
Flower Color: White
Planting Time: Spring
Planting Depth: Cover 1 inch (2.5 cm)
Spacing Between Bulbs: one per 5-inch pot
Hardiness: Tender I - injured below 68°F (20°C)
Hardiness:
USDA Zone 10a: to -1.1 °C (30 °F)
USDA Zone 10b: to 1.7 °C (35 °F)
USDA Zone 11: above 4.5 °C (40 °F)
Bulb Storage: Store bulbs in peat at 68°F (20°C).
To induce flowering, the growing plants must receive at least four weeks at 80-85°F (27-29°C) followed by a minimum temperature drop of 14°F (8°C), e.g., down to 65-70°F (18-21°C). These temperatures must be very constant or bulbs may not flower.
After 12 weeks at the lower temperatures, the plants should flower. Subsequently, the high temperature treatment should be repeated. Thus, the plants can flower twice per year. If water is withheld, the foliage will senesce and sometimes this will also induce flowering.
Comments: Hosta-like leaves; fragrant; can be grown in containers

Thank you so much for the information. I really appreciate it. I think I am probably lucky as I know the pot of bulbs was out at night in temps lower than 68 degrees, but everyone seems to be living. I will keep a better eye on them next summer. I have a lot of gorgeous glossy green leaves, so I don't think the bulbs have been injured to the point of no return.
Thank you again - hopefully I will have flowers on these bulbs next season.
