a friend saw this in his yard in Michigan last night. about the size of a football. red eye rings, red talon. What is it? Is it young or adult? It let him approach it.

thank you. don't know how it got in a neighborhood yard, unless they are pretty common now. wonder if he'll cook it for Thanksgiving.
