What type greenhouse panels to use on Texas Gulf Coast ?

Damon, TX

I live south and west of Houston. Want to build a greenhouse. Tuftex offers polycarb and vinyl. The vinyl comes in opaque and translucent. I had good luck with a previous greenhouse with milky white corregated fiberglass sheets about 30 years ago. So many new panels these days. This will be a full sun, hot, high UV area. Anyone know which would be best? I really can't afford the polycarb. The vinyl is affordable but I don't know which one to buy.

Were you in the same location when you had your last greenhouse? Will it be a seasonal greenhouse (like using it only in winter)?

I have found the greenhouse heat is oppressive in summer and I'm not able to make use of it. I keep shade cloth up most of the time. I would think opaque would be a better option for you. Also if the panels are UV rated, they would be the preferable choice for long term use.

DG also has a Greenhouse forum and you might find more opinions and experiences there. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/greenhouse/all/ Kristi

hi gracie, definitely check out the greenhouse forum. Lots of info.
My husband is building our first greenhouse this year; it is a small "hoop" style covered with plastic sheeting.
I know that we won't use it during our hot summers but it will be nice to have a place to grow in winter and start veggies for spring.
