My Aurea rotted

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

How come? This is the only cutting I've lost. Do the aureas need to be treated differently? I had it in soil - I knew it wasn't doing too good but today I noticed the whole thing keeled right over and the stem was completely rotted through. =-[

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I'm so sorry !!!Is there anypart of it still alive?

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Nope - it's history. I'll have to try again next year. I'd like to know what I did wrong first though.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

making light of the situation....welcome to the brug killers club, lol
been there..done that : (
jen

poppysue Probably wasn't anything you did wrong. Just happens.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

My little culebra did the same thing. Darn, cause I really wanted that one to make it. Will try again next year!! Bet you do too!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

my culebra did the same, and P&C isn't looking too good!! :(

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

tig... you have to totaly ignore p&c, i know i killed some....and rooted some. it's not the mama is it???? i don't have any p&c left....

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

she's hanging in there. She'll pout and then be fine, and then pout. But I kept a baby too.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

It has taken a long time, but my P&C is finally looking up instead of down. I keep taking the bottom leaves off so that the energy will go to the top growth and it has grown an inch in the last couple of weeks. Before that, it only drooped. Do any of you know of any other Peaches and Cream brugs? Someone sent me one that is also variegated and very hardy. It is growing by leaps and bounds. I'm anxious to see the difference in the blooms of the two.

Shirley

Shirley....
could you have the Maya? Does it look just like the P&C?

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

There is another variegated one - has waffley leaves. Klerxx variegata - usually goes by variegata. The bloom is white instead of peachy/cream. Blooms splay instead of hang down. Kind of neat.
I agree with the above - the variegateds are slightly harder to root. Use Brugmansia's rooting method - the layered soil, saturate and then LEAVE ALONE until it droops.
I've had good luck with both Peaches and Cream and variegata using his neglect method.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Gloria, it looks much stronger. I was told that it grows really fast and takes a lot of neglect. The leaves are a lot thicker feeling and have little hairs all over them. That is all I know about it so far.

FSH, TX

Wild white aurea, candida species, pink aurea, culebra...etc are all hard for many to root. Frosy pink, Pink Suaveolens, etc are all very easy. As a general rule...the more suaveolens genes something has the easier it is to root.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Gloria, my local friend got a maya from barbara, she told me she was surprised it had yellow in the leaves...maybe it was from new growth, will have to check with her. but i am told it is easy, gonna sneak it some of my fertilizer when i go over, i am dying to get a piece of it....

Arlene,
I got my Maya from Barb too and it does have a little yellow in the leaf....just noticed it today.....mine hasn't grown in leaps and bounds but it has grown. I just took a baby off it...hope it takes. Is your friend starting one for you?
