I love these. Most turned out cream or white, but I got this fabulous one that is orange. It is big and beautiful.
My Brugs from seed this spring,
Just beautiful! I had no idea you could get blooms from such young seedlings!
I only have 2 out of 15 that have not given me blooms. My son calls me showoff. I just can't believe the big one. Now in the coolness of fall all of them are blooming away. I love it, and so do my neighbors and people that drive by. I get asked all the time what they are because they are just not grown here in Utah where the winters are COLD.
I brought most of my brugs into the garage and the colors have just burst. I have tempted fate and left 3 in the ground and I have been rewarded greatly. The one that I have been watching finally bloomed. The flower is at least 18" from stem to flower, and at least 8" wide at the flower.
I just want to show the many pictures that I took. All these are from seeds that DG friends sent me this spring. Thanks so much. Enjoy.

Beautiful!
Absolutely beautiful!! Have never grown them before but am getting a couple cuttings from someone here on dg! What size pot did you start your seeds in-small then transplant or start with a larger pot so you don't have to transplant as grows???? And are you saving seeds from yours??? If so, would you by any chance have some to share???? Silly question right? Anyway, absolutely gorgeous flowers--you SHOULD show them off!!!
Sbish, most of us will be cutting our Brugs back for the winter, so if you post and ask AND REMIND us, we will share - most of us for the cost of postage. Many of ours have lost the i.d. tags long ago, but if you don't mind pot luck, we will send cuttings.
Thank You, I love them. I started then in 4" pots then up to gallon and on to 5 gallon and bigger. I will be cutting many back so I hope to have some cuttings. Yes, they are no name, but beautiful. Only problem, is I have to overwinter them in the garage or basement. Small price to pay though.
Lots of lovely blooms.I have never had luck getting the seeds to sprout,
I guess im not doing something right. I especially had no idea you could get such big plants and blooms from 1st years growth so very good job on your part..
It suprised me also. I am gioing to cut the ones in the ground off tomorrow and put them in a 5 gallon bucket with a bubbler. I read that I should put some hydrogen peroxide in also. I haven't ever done this, I hope it works.
Ree, even with the bubbler and the peroxide, you still need to change the water once a week.
You are so good to me Kay. I read somewhere the ratio of peroxide to water but can't find it now. Any suggestions?
It is not supose to freeze until Tuesday night, so I pulled other flowers and vegies, got 2 truck loads out and I have much more to go.
Monday, in the rain will be the day to cut the brugs.
Thanks.
Lovely seedlings...a tremendeous big white one... it's got such the spirit of the Brugmansias I see... give the non flowering others another year... sometimes some nice ones might be slower to start up..
you don't have to wait them to get roots in the water...once they have developed their white nubbins on the stem they can go into soil.. like a couple of weeks.. mother hasa different technique.. she puts her long cuttings in a big galvanized watering trough.. never changes the water.. and in the spring she seperates a tangled root mass.. and seperates the limbs and mite infested leaves.. and puts them out.. where the outside insects have a feast on the fat inside mites.. and soon there's lots of new healthy growth..
I have one 10" piece that broke off when I threw a blanket over the plant to protect it from frost. (The frost that never has come.) I put it in a jar of water and it has the white nubs on the bottom. I will plant it up in a gallon pot soon. Thanks so much.
I have 2 good stems of the very large brug that I will put in water and try to root. I am also going to dig the root and plant it so I can bring it inside. Hopefully I will get 3 good plants.
I can't believe the colors that I am getting from the brugs in the garage. The pinks and oranges are brilliant, and the white ones are beautifully pure white. I wish I could get these colors when they are out in the landscape.
