well, everyone sure must be busy.. it was a frosty morning this morning and when I called the calves up my little wild bottle calf wasn't with the rest.. So off out to the pasture with a warm bottle of milk tucked under my arm I went. When she finally heard me she jumped out of some tall grass like a deer. She wouldn't let me give her the bottle until she ran back to the house where the rest of her little herd was and then she would take it.. I am slowly weaning her and although she is eating well on her own I want to make she gets plenty of protein.
My oldest daughter is having a Halloween party this evening so I need to go cut the weiner sticks. An honorable task that I seem to get bestowed upon me every year. Lots of eggs on the stove to boil for the making of deviled eggs.
Just got a call from a guy about renting some pasture. He doesn't have much ground, but has beautiful angus cattle and says he is already feeding out hay.. He wanted to talk to my husband. Men seem so much more comfortable talking to men about these things sometimes. My hubby (city boy that I married) barely knows where the pasture is. oh and on that subject: he said Thursday morning that he was going to set the trash on the curb.. We do have trash pick-up but I wasn't sure where the curb was.. It was good for a laugh for a couple of days.. course there was the first time I spent the night in town with a friend and thought the street light was the moon,,, but hey -- I won't go there.. us farmers have to stick together.
Well, I'm going to take the eggs off the stove to cool and off to the woods with a nice sharp pocket knife..
Have a safe weekend.
