We photoed this in California. I have a pale white/pink bauhinia in my garden with the same double leaf. Is there a giant?
recognize this? It looks like a giant purple Bauhinia
I don't know what it is, but it sure is pretty.
There was a beautiful Bauhinia like this one that was behind Looscan library, in Houston, before the renovated and cut it down to enlarge their parking lot! I'm pretty sure that's what this is. It's called a Hong Kong Bauhinia.

By my other house in Longboat FL, there are so many of those trees, also by the popular St Armand Circle.
When I go there in November they are just spectacular. I used to call it "Orchid tree"
Yes, I brought mine from FL. Orchid Tree is the common name for Bauhinia. I'm determined to get mine to grow here, along with a Royal Poinciana. They die back at temperatures well above freezing. Wish me luck!
It looks like a Hong Kong Red Orchid Tree from Monrovia. I have a couple and love them.
I have mine in huge pots with auto water (they do love water) and cover them in the winter if it is going to freeze. I can still lay one down and cover it for freezes, the other one that I've had longer has been topped off and is a very strange shape but I can still pull it under a patio roof that I put plastic around and have a couple of heaters if it freezes here. It's quite a struggle moving it but it's worth it for those beautiful blooms. I also have photos of the older one with icicles hanging off of it and some blooms when we had an early freeze one year.
I've always said this is my favorite plant, I just don't let the other plants hear me.
