Taken this morning on a large lake about 50 miles inland from the S. Carolina coast. Anyone recognize him/her?
Sorry the photos are clearer but I was a good ways away. From the coloring, I'd guess it's possibly a juvenile, but a
juvenile what?
Any help appreciated. Can't find a good match in my Peterson guide.

CLOSED: Diving Duck-like Bird
looks like a immature Purple Gallinule or Common Moorhen to me. Not sure which one. Look at the bill length & shape. Length of wing feathers doesn't fit for Grebe or Rail and bill doesn't fit a Rail
Immature Gallinule was the closest I could see in my guide, too, Donna. I'll check the Moorhen. Thanks! :)
Juvenile Common Gallinule (formerly Moorhen, but split from that recently). Note the dark centre to the white undertail (obvious in the first pic), juv. Purple G has pure white undertail. Also grey neck (rusty-brown in juv. Pruple G)

Thanks, Resin!
