I have these out by the end of my driveway. People stop and ask what they are. These two I bought at a nursery. I have 17 others that I grew from seed sent to me from a couple of Dave's sweethearts. I am so glad they shared.

MyRee, what is that real full, ruffled red one?: Very pretty. I have never seen a brug like that before, but then I really haven't been into growing them for a long time. We just have too short a season. They start blooming right before the frosts.
Thanks Dana, I planted 3 of my seedlings in the yard. One is large and just gave me 4 orange/pink blooms so far. Oh, they are pretty. I have one plant that is short with very large leaves and the other is tall and hasn't made a Y yet. Some of my other seedlings have y'd and have a few buds. I am loving this. You know who one of the "Sweethearts" is.
The first picture is the seedling that is blooming. The other pictures are of my new yard. I started with a blank slate this spring.
The red one is a cockscomb. I can't believe how big and bright it is.
So the red one I asked about was a cockscomb and not a brug. LOL, just coming thru all the brug plants. Real pretty with them.
The tall red one is a amaranthus, They come up volunteer every year. I am pulling them up like weeds until I just have them where I want them.
Yeah, so what is the one with the Brug leaves? Is it a cockscomb or a brug? The flower is the same color as the tall one, but with a different (brug) flower.
It is a brug, You can see all the buds hanging down. Sorry for the confusion.
Yes, I can see buds hanging down on the white brug. What about the deep redish purple full one that looks like a cockscomb but also looks like it is coming thru the brug leaves. Same color as the tall cockscomb with the straight blooms.
