A friend gave me a Blackberry lily plant last Fall and it bloomed this spring..The seed pods are green and on there and I know the seeds are in those green pods..What do I do with the green stem/stalk after it is finished blooming? I thought I'd go to Michael's crafts today and look in the weddding section and see if I can buy some organdy favor bags to catch the blackberry lily seeds so they don't self sow where it is planted now because I plan to move it elsewhere in the Fall. Is there any thing I should know before I dig it up and transplant it? We had a storm last night that produced almost 3 in. of much needed rainfall but high winds, hail, thunder and lightning. Should I stake up the BL stem/stalks with plant support rings? What plants go well with Blackberry lily?
Who grows Blackberry lilies?
I was given blackberry lilies and I put them in a pot. The reason I did this is because they will spread like wildfire if released into the soil. That's why people have them to share. You would be stunned to see the yard of the person who gave them to me. He is overwhelmed by them.
You can just cut back the stalk if you already have all the berries that you want. If you have them in a pot, as I do, just put the pot in the garage for winter.
Since I don't have them in soil, I don't have companion plants for them. perhaps someone else can help?

I have 2 different blackberry lilies...one yellow ("Hello Yellow"), and one orange. They are blooming now. This is my first year, but I did put them in the ground in my "Hot Bed" I will have to take some pictures.
What varieties are you all growing??
I was given the orange one. It really is gorgeous!!!
It is the orange speckled one..or at least that is my description. I mentioned the pods were green..they are yellow and haven't released to my knowledge. Haven't been out back yet, but I'm on my way to see..Okay, I cut the yellow pod off and open one and the seeds in it are yellow..I have always read that they were black and shiny..does them being yellow mean they are not ripe? I discarded them in the yard waste bag that gets picked up twice a week but I just started this one so it might be here another week or two.. Depends on how much I get accomplished this week. I cut the seed pods off right below where they were attached. Did I do the right thing? I'd love to see more blooms this summer.
Thanks for all the input!
