I just found out this little mountain of peaches pits behind a bucket !
I thought I wast crazy when I harvested my red peaches and found only five ... I thought I had at least 30!
So who did this?
I did have a squirrel name Geronimo which was a casualty of a car accident ... just a month ago ...
Could be a squirrel going up the tree and run away with the peach in his hand and eat it under the bucket?
or who else?
I never had a raccoon or other animals in my back yard.
My back yard is all fenced and 3 of its 4 sides is up high on a retain wall of about 20' .
Any suggestion?
Who did eat my PEACHES?
I say a squirrel, but those pits seem too clean for squirrel's job, maybe the ants cleaned them up after them.
Well in my experience, the squirrels tend to take a bite or two out of fruit and throw them down.
I'd come closer to suspecting a raccoon or possum. Your wall would not deter either one. Kristi
aahhhhh
I hope was not a raccoon, because I know they eat tortoises ... ahhhhh
the fact you found all of the pits under one spot says squirrel behaivor he is storing the pits for later may as well leave them for him to retrieve..
Grits, I agree that a squirrel or rodent would place the seeds in one spot but I have never seen squirrels pick the seeds that clean.
That is what made me wonder if something else dined on the peaches. Then the tree rats stashed the pits. Kristi
That or they found someone else's stores of seeds and simply relocated them- squirrels are prone to forgetting where they leave things...
Squirreltimers disease ~ lol. I have sometimers... sometimes I remember and sometimes I forget.
before my crab appleX apple hybrid died from the heat a squirrel would get every apple and take them home???? or where ever he took them and this year when he no longer had apples for snacks he raided my plum tree everyday ,he/she was a sneaky devil only time I would see him was if he got to shaking the branches because he would get on one that was too small to bear his wait
Every time I see a cute squirrel, I have to quickly remind myself, "RODENT!"
Tree rats! lol
The only problem with a pile of peach pits is squirrels will bury things that they save for eating at a later date. Don't think they'd pile up a stash for later. Sounds more like a pack rat. Oh well, we may never know...
Maybe I will need to set up a camera for next year ...
It will be fun fun !
Thanks y'all
