I have collected some seed from a rock rose. Now I read that it is a biennial. Does that mean that if I get a seedling that it won't bloom until the second year? In that case, I would probably want to go to a nursery and buy one. If I decide to plant the seed should I do it now or wait until late fall?
Rock Rose
Rock Rose is a perennial small shrub, you can plant the seed now but most likely it won't get big enough to bloom this year.

You can plant it now and it'll get a good root system on it. In your area, it might bloom very, very late in the fall, if you don't get a freeze. I have one and have given many seedlings away. It doesn't take much to get them to the bloom stage and the seedlings grow quickly. The blooms only last for a day and then they produce 5 or so seeds per pod. They are extremely prolific reseeders in my flower bed. The seedlings are very easy to pull up, tho. Give it lots of room as it can get about 3' wide and about 3' tall.
Pod, I need one of those! That's the brazilian variety, correct?
Bezzie, I took some pics for you this morning. The first one is a little baby that decided to bloom today. It's only about a foot tall. The second picture is of one plant I have in my backyard flower bed. It's been there for 3 years now, if I remember correctly.
Thanks everyone. The seeds are in a pot in my little nursery (see attached picture). I also planted seeds of Echanacia, black eyed susans, and two sizes of shasta daisies yesterday to go in the proposed beds that we will make this fall.
Stephanie---I love the photos of your flowers. Not only are you a good gardener, you are an excellent photographer. I'm still working on that!!
Bezzie, thank you, but I'm just an amateur. I have my rock rose growing in partial shade and as you can see, it's doing just fine.
