Can any one identify this bug? I live in North Florida and I've never seen anything like this in my whole life of 3 score years. Thanks!

Looks kind of like a cicada to me.
I also vote cicada.
It looks like a cicada when it first comes out of the ground. It will leave this shell behind and become a large winged green fly looking critter. They are harmless and buzz loudly in the heat of summer. You may find these shells attached to pots, posts, walls, etc as they climb till they can bust out of the shell.
The first photo is two shells after the Cicadas have flown.

yes a cicada also known "at least at my house as" cat toy :)
My pet possum, Pemon, loves to eat them.
I have a pair of kitties that love to torture them. The buzzing noise is deafening.
We don't have a lot of them this year. Guess it's not a 7th year.
Yes it's a cicada. Our part of southern Colorado had a bumper 'crop' of them this year.
