Time to jump in

Eastland, TX(Zone 7a)

Well I guess I'll jump right in too. I'm a gardening addict that's a grandmother of one. I work in the medical field and live in central Texas. I've had some successful seed trades on another gardening site and am looking forward to making this my gardening home. So glad to be here, it seems like such a friendly place!

Hi, Sethsnana, welcome from another central Texas grandma, just north of Austin. Glad to see you here, maybe we can share ideas for gardening in this difficult environment. Are you east or west of IH35? I'm west, wishing for some of the black dirt from the east.

Eastland, TX(Zone 7a)

Aimee,
I am on IH20. I live about halfway between Abilene and Ft Worth. The only dirt at my house is heavy clay. I have to work like the devil to amend or replace my soil. I can hardly get a shovel into the soil! But I still love to garden. I lived in Austin for about 6 months, but have been trying to garden here for a long while. I'd love to
share ideas with you.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, it looks like you have exactly the opposite soil from mine. You can open it up a bit by working in a little limestone, whereas I have too much limestone. Do you have the cute little orange morning glory, ipomoea coccinea? It grows wild along the roadsides in La. and my sister and I gathered seeds near her house in NE La. a few years ago. It doesn't take over here, and stays open all day, so I just love it. If you want to try it, I can send you seeds. I think your climate and soil is much closer to what it has in La. than mine. I'm nuts about wildflowers.
