This was in my mailbox this morning. Darn!!
Dear Shirley,
We have tried to find a lot of ways to send to the USA but the USDA/APHIS (American authority doesn't allowe us to send Brugmansia and Passionflowers
to America. Fuchsia's are allowed but they are commercial not interesting to send.
I'm very sorry.
Regards,
Hendrik Jan Gommer
Email reply from Gommers....
Have they tried sending Americans hardwood cuttings? These could be made into wooden arm chairs, boxes, etc and mailed to us...then we could just plant the chairs, wooden boxes, etc. Perhaps lace them up with passionflower vines???
ROFLMBO!!!!!! You should give them that idea!!! Of course, patent it first!!!!
Great idea....wonder if they would laugh if I wrote to them using your idea? :-)
Shirley
You laugh, but I am thinking straight, just made a rawhide rattle with a Brugmansia handle. Now, remember, only use hardwood cuttings with no green what so ever. Joke of course, but I did once make some rattles for my baby out cedar and rawhide.
I'm thinking we are getting desperate for some of those beautiful brugs and would almost do anything to get them short of taking a trip. My friend in Canada will help us when the weather is more suitable for mailing. We will both need help from you to figure out what to do though.
Shirley
Just call me the the carpenter in training...joke of course. Pine sap makes an excellent glue though if your going for that woodsy short one stop look though. Boil the hard resin and then apply-once it cools its stable enough for shipment. Wrapping in vines works to though....if your familiar with doing such things. When the vine dries out it pulls tight and the wood stays in place.
I'm familiar with the pine sap routine. Course I always forget to wear gloves when working with it and then I'm a mess for days. Kind of looks like sweet potato milk dried all over my hands. Have lots of grave vines, will have to put them to use too.

Ya'll are great!
Good to see you here Horseshoe. Haven't seen you around in a while.
