Yesterday morning I went out to La Sal Del Rey before it got too hot. Thats an ancient salt lake in South Texas. I sat down to rest in the shade(in the pictures background) to watch the wildlife, deer,(a doe and its fawn checked me out) nilgai, turkeys, etc. As I got up I walked a few steps I saw a Lesser Nighthawk rise from the ground. I immediately made a beeline to the spot that it rose from and found that it had been sitting on and egg. After taking a few pictures, I left and the Nighthawk returned to its nest, if you can call it that. Nighthawks lay their eggs on the bare ground.
