I have a rookie water plant question for you seasoned pond people . I am just getting started water gardening and bought a hardy water lily today the tag saysit should be submerged 12 - 24 inches. the stems caring the leaves are not that long should I sink t that low and wait for the leaves to get longer ? will they ? there is a very promising little flower bud coming up so I am excited about it but wasn't sure
thanks laura
rookie question
It will adjust the length of the stems within days to reach the surface. So where ever you plan to put it in your pond should be fine ~~~~~~~>(())">
thanks fish_knees . I have been gardening for a long time but this is my first pond . lots of fun !

It is surprising how much the length of the leaves will adjust. We used to have our waterlilies on plastic file cubes, which brought the waterlilies to the correct height. We had a fish get caught between two of the cubes and we decided that was it and hauled out all the waterlilies and then removed all the plastic file cubes. It just wasn't worth a fish getting caught or hurt between the cubes. The waterlilies all have been sitting in about 3 1/2 feet of water and there has never been an issue. They bloom and bloom.
carolyn 22, thats good to hear, do you over winter them in the pond?
Laura
