Pipevine Swallowtail (Battus philenor)
This is Aristolochia baetica. It has a spreading habit like Passiflora incarnata in that it sends out an underground runner with shoots coming up all along the runner. It is covering half my rose arbor and in bloom now. I am also enclosing a picture of the flower of Aristolochia durior. It does not spread like baetica and is difficult to root. From what I understand, the only way to root is to pin the vine down along the ground & will root in time. Then can be cut & dug up & potted.
