Pipevine Swallowtail (Battus philenor)
The caterpillar, when disturbed, will thrust out two yellow hornlike projections from its head. When a bird picks it up, the taste from these horns must be bad that the bird spits the caterpillar out. Right now (7/4/12) the caterpillars are huge & ready to pupate & at the same time, the butterflies are mating & laying eggs on my pipevines.
