Good read. They need to spread the word about non-native grass lawns using ridiculous amounts of water too. Edible front yards or indigenous is so much more sustainable. Three years later, I'm still battling that awful St. Augustine that my home's previous owner pampered and it's like fighting jungle vines. Josephine, do you know if Dichondra will stay green through a Texas winter?

I have never grown it, maybe others can help with that.
They say this one is evergreen; http://wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=DIAR2

Here are some informational links to dichrondra lawns.

On the first link, scroll down to special problems. Note that dichrondra has low drought tolerance. Given the number of droughts we've had in the past decade with no noted difference in the weather patterns for the foreseeable future, perhaps your best bet would be to go with some deep rooted native grass. Another alternative is to get rid of the "lawn" and plant low growing grasses and native plants. They would fare a lot better in our Texas on again off again droughts.

The second link gives more information not mentioned in the first. Keep in mind that this link comes from UC Davis where weather patterns are much different than ours.

Thank you both! Originally, my property was Buffalo Grass but the last owners dug it up & planted the St. Augustine. I have about 1/2 of an acre where there is Dichondra that started on it's own & was hoping it would just take over the entire front yard.
Off to read through your links, thanks again.....
