man does it stink! I have an old bathtub in my pasture that I no longer use for watering purposes. However, when it rains, water does collect in it. Seems like 2 of my chickens decided to see why the chicken crossed the bathtub..and didn't quite make it. Since I harldy go to where the tub is, I hadn't noticed that the 2 hens were stranded in there. My neighbor who has a garden up wind from the tub told me he was smelling something "foul" (no pun intended) and he went check out the problem. Well, one chicken was dead and had been for some time and the other was nearly dead, soaking in dead chicken guuck. He pulled it out and came tell me a chicken was dying. So my little one and I went to check out the poor chicken. She lay there half dead and shivering. I dried her off the best I could and put her in a box. *Nightfall* It is a little chilly out tonight, say around 66ish..I don't have the heart to leave poor chicken outside. So here I sit with the most rank thing I have ever smelled in my living room. The chicken just stood up for the first time and clucked. I think she might live. I guess she will have to sleep inside tonight. I don't know if I will ever get the smell of "almost dead soaked chicken" out of my house. I hope kim does not see this (gardewife) because she is coming to visit me soon--or maybe she should see this, it would explain the order that will (i am sure) stick to the walls....ahhh well, life on the farm.
