Does anyone know what variety this is? I've tried several banana-type peppers from seed but none are as bulletproof and productive as these. They aren't a good replacement for a thick, juicy bell, but boy howdy do they keep you in peppers when everything else fails.
It's a great variety for the South, and I would much rather buy seeds.
Bonnie sweet banana pepper
It is the standard OP Sweet Banana, a AAS medalist in 1941. It is available from many vendors including Burpee, Harris, Gurneys and multiple "heirloom" type vendors. A hybrid versions include Banana Bill, Banana Supreme and Sweet Spot. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/75234/ http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/118941/ http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/81955/ http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/81083/
Thanks, Farmerdill! I haven't seen that at any of my usual vendors. It would be a shame to add another and start getting their catalogs, too. ;p
I am growing Sweet Spot this year. It's bigger and thicker -- and much less yellow. I also don't like the taste as much. It's not been as productive so far, but it's early yet.
