Ka ching, ka ching! Temp is currently 52f in my backyard this morning. Going out to get some work done before the upcoming heat wave.
Unusually cool
We were able to open our windows last night. For the first time ever I picked up the scent of the hedychiums as I dozed off to sleep. Usually the AC is going full blast by now and everything is closed up tight. I am loving this weather.
Nice and cool here too! High in the upper 80's today.
I've been busy clearing my yard so I can cut most of my grass with my riding mower. Not looking forward to the heat wave quickly heading our way, but reminding myself that in a few weeks the Japanese beetles and yellow flies will go away.
Windows open with the scent of hedychiums wafting through the bedroom sounds lovely.
Expecting my utility bill to double next month, as I begin to count down the number of weeks left til next mid September.-)

X.
Same here. It hit 88, but 10 miles to the North in Wilmington, it was 100.....;)
Coller-than-Wilmington Barbie
The weather liars have done it again. First they said it was supposed to be 106 here today, then yesterday they changed it to 106 on Sunday instead and now, thank goodness, they have dropped it again to a high of 99 tomorrow. We should stay in the mid 90's otherwise and, given the circumstances, that actually sounds good.
My heart goes out to you triple digit folks.
It got up to 100 here yesterday .. I got up early and watered everything and collected seeds .. staying indoors for sure today .. time to do some serious cleaning and organizing!
For me, it's all about the heat index. Yesterday's official high in the town of Sumter was 107, but in my shaded, rural location the high temp was 99. Thank goodness the humidity was low, so there was no heat index. Just got back from town today, and it's unbearably hot and humid out there compared to yesterday. I've also noticed that Columbia's temp is always a little hotter than in Sumter, but our higher dew points/humidity levels create a higher heat/misery index.
Hard to believe that by early Oct, there's usually a light freeze event in my backyard and many other rural spots here in the midlands. Can hardly wait for the japanese beetles and yellow flies to go away in a couple weeks!
"Weather Liars"...I love it! Accurate, and to the point! But you gotta cut them some slack. They make their living (like most newscasters) by generating fear; so that's what they do, and they do it well! Right now here on Johns Island (sort of...I don't really live on the Island...just my zip code sez I do...but I can see the real Johns Island across the Stono River from me...and right now, we're just experiencing some VERY welcome rain...I'm loving it So are my plants!. Maybe somewhere on the real Johns Island they're experiencing the "severe weather" forecasted. But I doubt it.... "Much Ado About Nothing" is my personal take...and I'm usually right...FWIW...
Yet again, yesterday I watched the storms form on radar and dump rain all around me. Think I was 1 of about a dozen people in the entire county who got no measurable rain! Gotta hand it to accuweather, though - they've been predicting a 95% of rain for yesterday since Thursday. They're also predicting a 75+ chance of more storms this afternoon, and a stormy pattern setting up for the next 2 weeks.
Still, it was nice to be outside in rain cooled air, even though I didn't get enough to measure. Hoping today a slow moving storm morphs over my backyard.
We finally got some much needed rain and I loved it too. We could see the lightning and hear thunder but it was mostly in the distance, Edisto maybe? The was one huge bang that shook the house so something must have gotten hit but everything around here looks fine.
Got a bit less than a quarter of an inch here .. everything is wet so it's gonna be really humid in about a hour .. still going to go out and hand water.
