Saw these as I was walking through the gate into work this morning, had to drop everything and grab the phone to take some photos. The parents were flying around but didn't seem to be bothered by me snapping photos.
CLOSED: Bird ID please
Looks like a Great Kiskadee.
Their breeding range has been expanding north in Texas in recent years but if you found it near Copperas Cove, that's really extra-limital nesting.
You might want to check with a local Audubon Society or other Bird-Nerd group
Thanks Ned, I'll check with the Cornell Univ Flicker site. This was taken on Ft. Hood, about 15miles from Copperas Cove.
Western Kingbird.
Kiskadee has a black crown above the white eyebrow, which yours doesn't have, and also strongly rufous wings, not the grey-brown yours have.
Edit: also (just visible in the last pic) white sides to the black tail, which counts out other kingbirds (and Kiskadee too, as that has an orange-red tail)

Mmm..Looks like a Great Kiskadee except that it doesn't have a black crown or rufous wings or an orange-red tail. I was too quick on the trigger.
Ditto to Resin-Western Kingbird.
Yep, Texas Parks and Wildlife confirmed it, Western Kingbird.
Thanks for the ID
