I cleaned!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Yesterday, I bit the bullet and really cleaned the living room. I've been in a sore, depressed sort of paralysis and the housework has gone by the wayside for waaay too long. But yesterday, I did a little at a time, took breaks at the computer, and even re-arranged the furniture (the easy-to-move stuff). You can't believe what an accomplishment this simple thing of cleaning seems to me right now. I need to tackle the office today, but I have a horrid sinus headache/migraine thing going on. Pray for me? I want to whip the house into shape so we can have people drop by without feeling mortified, and so we can actually invite people over for dinner! :o)

Kimberely, I have an Amish neighbor girl who comes in once a week and dusts and vacuums and washes the kitchen and bathroom floors, and I still manage to mess it all up before she comes back. I'm in charge of the kitchen. One of these days I'll surprise her and have ALL the counters cleared off and ALL the dishes done and put away. We have 7 desks in this house. Not one of them is cleared off enough to use! I applaud you - heck, I'll give you a standing ovation, but quietly, I know about those sinus/migraine things. (((((((the crowd roars)))))))

Great going GW....baby steps, baby steps and baby steps. tackle one part of a room at a time, and before you know it the whole room will be done, and move on to another room/area...
I spend most of the weekends cleaning....I hate it!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I am a housewife for now, so I try to get the cleaning done on the weeknights while DH is at work so we can enjoy the weekends in a clean house. It just hasn't been clean in, well, months, and it was getting to both of us (even us clutterbugs).

Clutter is one thing I am the queen of. I never get done with my being away so much but theres noone here but me and the pets.I think living alone tends to help piling stuff up. I finally got my table and desk clear yesterday. Hadnt been able to see the top for a long time. Cleaning tires my legs but I have had to scrub while sitting on my moveable chair and I work 15 and take 15 off-that works for me on the worse days.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Darn it Kimberley, you are making the rest of us look bad! I will have to be careful not to click on this one while hubby or the kids are looking. Can't let them know other gardeners are cleaning their houses right now. Hee hee I have four Halloween costumes to make, soccer tournaments, then my 20hr/wk job outside of the house. Don't guess you wanna come help me? LOL

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

If it's any consolation, I had a horrible headache all day yesterday and didn't do a DARNED thing. Not one. ;o)

hi gardenwife, I know just how you feel, my house looks like a cyclone hit it. I try now to make the girls help during the week because they have so much homework to do. they help on weekends. I have a dishwasher and usually there are always dirty dishes in the sink. I just can't seem to get it all done. Those baby steps and all. I to do a little sit a little do alittle and lay down a little. just 5 yrs ago i could work in my garden allday and till it with atiller and never have to stop. Now at 50 I can barely get it done with the farm tractor. I would much rather use my energy with my yard than in the house but it all has to be done. So congratulations on your baby steps and know that you are not there alone. there are any of us in the same boat. janet

Well, I let it slip again for a while, but last week I got all except the bedroom clean and we actually had company Sunday and Wednesday! Sunday, was family, but Wednesday was Flowox from DG - so it felt really good to be able to have someone over. Still need to do more, but it was presentable!

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Ok, I have to say GW's living room was really nice, she has it all decorated and stuff and it's really comfy. Mine still looks somewhat like a batchelor's pad since I've only lived here with my boyfriend for 1 year now and it's his place and of course money is tight. It was more than just presentable, it was comfortable and I liked the decor. I envy you GW for having those nice things in your living room. She also has borders in all the rooms that look really nice, I was amazed and just loved them.
Ok, maybe that gave you a little boost to not be so down on yourself. Although I do the same thing you do. You'll see, mine is not that great when you come over :o)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Well, thank you, Flowox. :o) It's taken us years to meld our decorating and to get things "together". We've been married 10 years, remember. Going from renting to owning was wonderful - we painted our livingroom walls a lovely golden brown with the fireplace wall painted forest green...And no landlord could tell us otherwise!! :o) It's been a dream come true. Thanks for your compliments - we want our house to feel like a home to people. We love having people over and want them to be comfortable and warm here.

Longview, TX

I have the same problem. Is this a gardener thing? I cant seem to get it all done. The house has been in a shambles for a year now. I am really wanting to clean at least the living room area to start. I have clutter everywhere. I didnt have clutter until my kids were older. Since my heart surgery I havent done nearly the housework I used to. I used to be a clean fanatic. But that was before I became an outside gardener, and had kids!!! Whewww that changed it all!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Can I join this club? I hate cleaning and it's a major accomplishment for me when I actually get things cleaned up. It was my turn to host hubbies family for Christmas day this year .... that's about 20 people. I put the cleaning off until the 23rd. I thought I was gonna drop! Stayed up until 2am washing floors Christmas eve. I'm so glad my turn only comes every 3 years. I can say things are just about back to the usual mess already ... dirty dishes in the sink, seeds spread all over the counter, books all over the computer desk, pile of dirty clothes in the bathroom & newspapers all over the coffee table. I was thinking maybe I should make a point to invite company over once a week.... since it seems to be the ONLY thing that will get me cleaning! Feel better Kim??

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, boy, does that ever sound familiar! Everything except the seeds on the counter is a perfect match. Oh, and I accumulate piles of magazines, books, newspapers and catalogs on the floor by my side of the bed. I am a reader in addition to being a packrat (i.e. collector) and tend to leave a trail of printed materials wherever I go.

I have not cleaned in a while and I really, really need to. We're spending the night with friends tomorrow night, though, so no one is coming here for New Year's Eve!!

markleysburg, PA(Zone 5a)

Clutter is king in my house. i am a procrastinator until the very last minute also. Had so many plans for Christmas week as I had it at home and came down two days before with a terible cold and sinus infection and my whole week has been in the chair and bed. So much for plans.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, that's too bad, Marclay. I can relate to the sinus infections, that's for sure. I have not had an actual infection for years, but there's a lot of junk way up in my sinuses and it causes me a lot of pain. I don't get stuffed up to where I can't breathe, but I have the terrible pressure and it hurts like heck to breathe through my nose (especially if the air is cool and dry). That's where I'm at today - and we're going to spend the night with our best friends! :o(
