I just noticed that one my vanilla orchid plants if finally flowering. I've also included photos of my large whiskey barrel of capers and a huge cardamom plant in my culinary herb garden.
Flowering Vanilla, Capers and Cardamom
I'd LOVE to be able to grow any/all of those. They look great, and a love cardamom. Alas, my zone is too cold and I don't have a greenhouse.
Lucky you! I gave a variegated vanilla vine away as I never dreamed I could make it bloom.
They say that vanilla taste is exquisite. Have you had seed before?
Not a caper fan but tell me, does the cardamom produce blooms and seeds? Your plant is gorgeous.
I haven't had seed before. This is the first flower I've had on any of my vanilla orchids. I never expected any as I planted them and then never did anything else to help them along. They get water from the sprinkler, but I've never fertilized or anything. I always mean to, but just never seem to get around to it. They have been growing so well that I figured they didn't need it and that they probably would never bloom anyway. Guess I was wrong!
The capers are actually my real joy in my garden. I searched for seeds and plants for years before finding tiny starts about 7 years ago. I've been growing them ever since.
The cardamom has not produced blooms or seeds yet, but I expect them any day. The plant is huge, as is my turmeric. I have hundreds of photos of over six hundred edibles on my property on my webssite www.mommystuff.net .
My miracle fruit trees have hundreds of blooms right now and are absolutely loaded with ripe fruit. And my peanut butter tree is loaded up as well. Great time of year!
