Do you have to let the Pods dry on the plant or can you cut the Pods off & put them into a JAR to dry???? UPSIDE DOWN??
QUESTION :ABOUT POPPIES
Susie, I let the seed heads get almost dry. They will be brown and look brittle. I have also enclosed them in a paper bag tied shut and that way you catch all of your seeds.
My back has let up so I am back to weeding and gardening. Never did get my greenhouse going this spring as I spent 3 weeks in bed due to my back.
Maxine
I Didn't get into mine either except to put pots away or to get them out :) Not Much free time this year with daddy being so sick on & Off .
Oh, I am so sorry to hear that. my husband Archie is on oxygen now at night. He finally got off the oxygen in the day time which sure helps. He has COPD and I have him now on a new supplement that is supposed to help his breathing and so he can get off of the inhalers which contain steroids. He has some disease pertaining to the heart of which I cannot remember the name.
Boy, Fibro is doing a number on my mind today for remembering!!
Max
Just remember what the disease is, congestive heart failure.

Deejay,
I have dark purple/almost black columbines, also some blue and
raspberry colored ones.
Wish you lived closer as I have been giving
away volunteer zinnas by the 50's. And I did the digging lol. I just had
to get them out of my garden - they were taking over!
Also have white datura but not a double.
My larkspur has been pitiful this year but think I have some packaged
seed to share.
If you're still looking, let me know.
Would love ZINNIA Seeds if you can get some along with all the others you mentioned will take what ever you have to share as long as they are not daylily seeds i have plenty of them . will pay you for postage
ok Deejay, will try to get to them tomorrow but more likely Wed
as my dance card is actually pretty full the next couple of days.
If you don't hear from me by Friday - send me a nudge as it
probably went clear out of my mind - or whats left of it :)
just nudging you :)
Just got the seeds out to you today.
The columbines are the "Winky" series except for the dark purple.
Those are the Black Barlow.
I did however send you the wrong Datura. So next time a robin comes
around I'll send the white in the box.
This is my first season growing poppies. It's been VERY successful! Regarding your question about the pods. I let the most ginormous pods stay on the plant until they began to really turn a yellow cream beige color. About three weeks. The earliest I cut them down was four days after the petals fell off. I never cut anything while it was still that bright green color and their "hats" or "crowns" were still plastered to their heads. The pods I let stay on the plant for three weeks are almost completely "dry". I shake them and hear the seeds inside. All the others are laid out on newspaper on the kitchen floor and counter and I've a ton on some drying racks outside in the sunshine. I've turned them all once a day. Next year I plan to leave the biggest on the plants as long as possible. Also, I've been very surprised that 80% of my plants are still producing flowers!
P.S I forgot about all the pods upside down in brown paper bags! I used the "lunch" size bags and put four to five in each. Upside down of course!
TY KEI For the info I also have been saving lots of seeds :)
