eric, could you email me names of 2 smaller plants with roots from sunday? also can't remember, that fat seed pod came off isabella?
your velveety green hybrid opened over night, is still white/versi looking.. what color do you think it will be. 2 more are getting ready to open in the next few days.
harvested first seed off your super pollen white X.. moth pollinated... 28 seeds, fell right out of the pod, no gook on them. resembled isabella which was in bloom at the time.

Arlene,
Are y'all going to have cold weather this weekend? I think it's going to get right at freezing here....dang....I thought I might have a few more weeks.

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

We are looking for frost too.The potted brugs are going into the greenhouse but the two in the ground will have to take their chances. These two are my unidentifieds from Walmart. One has a bud.Any chance of saving this so I can see the color?

Arlene...The Frosty Pink is about to bloom again! Also, two of the Jutner Orange cuttings now are about a foot tall and have tiny buds.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Hi, you two...i heard one report mid to upper 30s, another said aroud 40. JT... odds are you can just cover, the kind i had in the ground last year took light frosts in fall and winter. i have been buying flannel sheets at yard sales for this.... don't know if it will knock off buds. JT, that frosty pink might be suavolens pink..i know i am so bad, but whatever the name i really like it. sounds like you are doing really well with them.

FSH, TX

Seedpod came off my Isabella for sure Arlene. S.Rosea was one of the very small plants I sent you that was rooted if memory serves me. Can't remember any others off hand that were anywhere as close to as small as that one. The candida species and Milk and honey were a bit larger though, perhaps only 2 or 3 cuttings from those for sure. Ahh, the cuttings-the skinny ones were from Frosty pink x Dr.Sues if memory serves me correctly. It had serrated leaves right? That one hasn't bloomed for me yet, but I suspect light pastels or whites....
Hmm, I suspect you might be talking of Kyle's Pink as well, thats one of my seedlings. Beautiful pure pink versicolor type-bloomed in its 7 month from seed. Course its not a pure versicolor and it only had white nodes on it when I gave those cuttings to you.
Still, I think one of these days I should start keeping track of what I have sent out and to whom as memory is only good for so long.

I want y'all to know that I am half dead trying to get everything saved that I don't want to loose due to our cold weather coming in. DH hauled a lot of the potted things back to the greenhouse in his truck..isn't he a sweetie?...my greenhouse is about 150 ft from my house. I was running around all morning with the wheel barrow and the clippers. I think I have most all saved that needs saving....I'll still have tomorrow but after that the plants are on their own.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Glory,

My greenhouse isn't that far from the house, but our hail storm the other day put about 20 holes in the roof, so I'm just hoping to get it fixed before spring. Too cold here to use in the winter anyway.

Shirley

PS. Hubbies can be great guys!!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

i got the dh to carry a pot once.... Shirley, can i borrow that greenhouse? i guess i am an optimist, don't think it will get much below 40 here from what i have heard. Gloria, i feel for you, know that is a job! so proud of the buds on beccalynn. i have several plants making their first blooms including jamaican yellow, beccalynn, a couple more hybrids. i refuse to let the cold come. have got to get my pics on, i have bunches of bananas!!! they are still unfolding, looks like at least 14-15 bunches of 12-14 bananas if the cold doesn't get them...

Arlene,
How far are you from JT? Everything is snug as a bug in a rug in the greenhouse.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

good for you, glad you have your plants protected. i think i am about 225 to 250 miles..he is in the panhandle, i am in north central florida, about 20 miles from zone 9, closer to gulf than atlantic. i just read 34F for the low!!!!!! can't stand it, i have plants with first time buds and seeds in the ground. guess i will take some cuttings, cover what i can and hold my breath.

Arlene,
What happened to our Warm Sunny South? I'm sitting here with a sweat shirt on.....yesterday I had shorts on and by Tuesday I guess it will be in the 80's again. Gotta Love it.

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

gloria
I still have it down here 70's this morning window all open nice breaze and a yard to moe...

FSH, TX

Guess I will be outside with the clippers again tonight. Have to save some for bringing inside.

Brugman,
Hurry....it's coming your way.

FSH, TX

Just clipped all of my personal hybrids last night that I like. Thanks glory-all saved. Only keeping my first year bloomers in color except for 1 very fragrant white from this years collection.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Brugman, i am banking on it not really frosting....gonna cover my stuff up. well, when i start cutting will see how far i go.....everything in my yard looks great this morning..was 39F.

FSH, TX

Yes, well I took everything out of the house this morning and drug it out into the yard before going to work. Just to be on the safe side. One night can ruin next years plans too easily. I really want to get some nice hybrids going next year.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

I am sure you are right, time to make up my mind!

FSH, TX

Arlene,
Its the same every year. Fighting with the cold and trying to push it just one more day. Sommetimes its best to leave em be-but as this is the first year for some of my Brugmansia I simply pull them up roots and all as well as taking cuttings and plant them all in large or small pots as the case may be. Just pulled up a few trees as a matter of fact to pot up. I think they grow better in the ground, but pulling them up roots in all sure helps for just in case. Next year they newer ones can stay in the ground all year...

Arlene,
My Mom live about 14 miles south of me or 1/2 mile off the Gulf of Mexico and she is not cutting anything yet....I think the warm winds off the Gulf keeps her area a little warmer then me. I know this doesn't help you a bit. LOL

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

well, it's a little after 5, the sun is starting to go down, still trying to figure out what to do!!! i am really more worried about my bananas then brugs, think i will pick off the top couple of bunches, wrap the rest.... cover up some brugs. it it only gets to 34 i just don't think it will hurt them much.... hoping for another month of warm after tonight.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Can't you put ,like ,a garbage can over some of them???Save them ALL!!!!!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I know, CC, don't it just kill you??? :)

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Arlene
Place a blanket over the bannas if you can reach them
last year Mine didn't ripen until after I pick them
Pete

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

I guess I'm just chicken. All mine are in the greenhouse except for the one with the bud.I put three iron post in a triangle around it and draped a dropcloth over them.
Now I regret that.If it makes it tonight I'm digging that sucker up tomorrow.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

It is just too early to frost, October?! i put a flannel sheet around my bananas, cut some sage and put in a vase with one cutting off one brug...the rest are on their own. of course, i will be up before the sun, checking on things...gotta have six more weeks of warm!!!! i have blooms to see!
irish, these are rajapuri, how do i know when they are ripe? the top bunches blooms are now black things, the ones still unfurling are tee tiny with blooms.

I'm surprised it gets that cold in Florida. I haven't had frost yet on the wet coast, just lots of rain and wind. I've still got lots in the ground, mostly cg's, fp's and a few LBJ hybrids and one flava hybrid. DH is going to build a cover for them for the winter. I'll cut them back to about 3 feet and winter protect them. Worked last year, hear's hoping. You guys are luckier as you get much hotter weather in the summer so they grow really fast. Much slower here.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

brugcrazy, it is way too early here! year before last didn't have real cold here until the week of Christmas. i just refuse to cut the babies back yet....was 39 last night, everything did great, is supposed to be 34-38 tonight.

have to water a lot in the summer, even establish plants start to droop in the heat here.

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Arlene is right.A full month too early for frost.Ours usually hits in late November.
BTW Arlene,if Rajapuri has a pup I would like to have one.
Have red leaf and Muri if you want a trade.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

OK,I'm dying here!Did they all make it through the nite??

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Heavy frost here.Thermometer says 31 at 5:30 AM.Figs and bananas are through for the year.Havn't checked the brug under the dropcloth. When the sun comes up and things warm a bit I'll check it.
Arlene and Glory, hope all of yours came through ok.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

The local temp on my computer said 40 at 5:30, so i went back to sleep. it is 38 now, looked at everything, everything looks great, flowers on the brugs are still pretty....absolutely nothing has been damaged that i can see. still hoping to get into december before first frost. JT, will get you a pup. rajapuri is the first to every make nanas for me, they say 9 months. they are supposed to taste good. don't get as tall as the others....

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

"Dropcloth" seems fine.Maybe we will have another month of nice fall weather now.

We had a light frost last night but I haven't been out yet to look at the standing Brugs.

I thought it might get cold last night so I went out and cut down a bunch of brugs in large pots, had DH bring them into the wine cellar, was out in the dark (10PM) cutting down my Flava Hybrid in the garden and then it clouded over, no frost. Anyway it will need to be done soon anyway. Left a bunch of large flowering cg's in the garden. They look great and if I lose them, it's no big deal. Got lots more. LOL

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Glad i didn't do anything, i would have been mad at myself. fingers crossed for 4-8 more weeks before a real frost. i actually put an unrooted cutting straight in the ground a couple of weeks ago.

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

It's gonna get you one day Arlene.

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Think positive Arlene

Yes, i would have been ticked if i had cut everything back. even the bananas are fine, i did wrap them...never had bananas on them before! one day i will be running around into the night with a flash light and cutters!

FSH, TX

My Brugmansia are fine, loads of cuttings as well though.
