We got a nice wee present of a Brug a couple of weeks ago.
It's now blooming and fragranting all over the place.
I wonder what it's name is.
I've nicknamed it "The Brugmansia for which I have neither Name nor Type" for short.
Here's a wee photo or three:
A nice but puzzling present!
Barry, I'm giving you more or less the same answer regarding unnamed Brugs that I gave Garry:
The look of each flush may appear slightly different even those Brugs that look creamy white. I used to have a Brug called Creamsicle. It's flush color is supposed to be apricot. I had it for about 4 years. In all that time, it had 2 flushes with apricot blooms. Those two flushes occurred in the greenhouse in the middle of winter. The rest of the time, the blooms remained a beautiful creamy white. To compound the difficulty in identifying a Brug cultivar, there are so many look alikes and mislabeling that it has become impossible to identify a Brug if it doesn't come with a name label. Once a Brug loses its label it is best to consider it a NOID (No identification). There is nothing wrong with having noids. It is no less beautiful. The results of trying to name unlabeled Brugs has gotten so bad that unless you get your Brug from a reputable seller, you may not have the true cultivar. Please enjoy your beautiful wee NOID and let it remain an unnamed Brug.
I have one just like tht does good flushes strong grower you have your self a nice plant and present to boot good for you!
That is one beautiful plant. I've always have the attitude that if a plant or brugs flowers in my care; I woudn't care what's their name.
Enjoy the flushes and the fragrant they reward you.
Thanks Betty, I'd already resigned to the fact that I'd never find a name for him as he looks almost like the one I had years ago. At that time, I bought a brug from Gaertner Poetschke, which is one of Germany's biggest (if not the biggest) mail order garden suppliers. They called it 'Herrenhaeuser Gardens' after the beautiful garden park in Hanover, Germany. Monika, of 'Brugs in Germany and the world' fame, corrected me and said "That's not ...etc.". So I've had one of these NOIDs before and it was just as good as if I had known his name (my flowers are all male :-)). If anyone asked me what type it was, I just said, "He's a George".
Thanks for the reply and clarification Bettydee. Thanks Danasplants and Gaseedgrower, yes it is a lovely plant, and a nice wee present from an unexpected source which was an elderly lady neighbour with whom we didn't have much contact.
I said to SWMBO (she who must be obeyed) aka my wife, that maybe we should invite her over sometime for a coffee and cake afternoon and she brought "The Brugmansia for which I have neither Name nor Type".
I think I'll call him Brian. Yes, that's it ...
Brian, Brugmansia of Wiedenhof.
Cool!
