Plead your case - is it better to have
or have not ?
Monkey Grass - ? pros vs cons ?
Depends. I have a very large bed in the front that surrounds (irregularly shaped) a tree where nothing else grows. It is very attractive and takes no care. Over the past 50 years I have tried at various times to use it as a border. HA!HA! It spreads underground and will take over everything. Don't know the names of the various kinds. In the front the variety I have gets about 6-7 inches tall. In the back we have rock patio area and planted the very small variety between the rocks when we first built it. It takes 10 years to spread 6 inches out. Only gets about 4-5 inches tall. When the rocks get hot, it dies. I have tried that as a border and it is not quite so invasive. Guess you could say I have a love/hate relationship. Since I have learned to use it in the way it performs we are both happier.
I am scared of the stuff! lol
I love it. I haven't found the monkey grass to spread much, but rather just gets thicker and thicker. It's the mondo grass that runs underground and gets so out of control.
Thanks sybram. I needed a clarification. When asked about my plants my answer is always......I have some red flowers, white flowers, pink flowers.....etc.etc.etc. You get the drift of my ignorance. At my advanced years it works for me.
Mondo, monkey, liriope, Lilyturf, muscari, some of it isn't too invasive, and is a good groundcover under trees in difficulty places
