My daughter and her family went to Galveston Texas for family reunion with her in laws and was very disappointed with the beach. The rental is ocean front how ever there was 3 foot of sea weed so evryone had to stay in!!
She loaded one of her suitcase dried sea weed for her compost. Had anyone tried this?
I know there is such thing as kelp fertilizer.

Sea weed for compost!!!
Sure, seaweed is a fine old fashioned fertilizer. *Really* old fashioned -- it's been used for at least hundreds of years. You might like this article:

Interesting, thank you.

My parents used seaweed in our garden when I was a child. It is a perfect addition to a compost heap, although it stinks as it rots!
I use lots of seaweed in my garden. It has lots of nutrients. We dry it and put it through th shredder. kb
My daughter brought home dry ones .
Honeybee,
I love the smell of seaweed. there are even seaweed that are edible.

Belle - I've seen edible seeweed in our local health food store and have wanted to try it. Unfortunately the price tag doesn't match my income. LOL
Honeybee,
Yes dehydrated seaweed can be very pricey!!! It is a good source of iodine.
My daughter will give me some of her dehydrated seaweed from galveston.
Costco has a big box of nori sheets (like the kind you'd use for sushi) right now for $10. I'd buy it for snacking but I don't think I'd use that much... I guess I could always put it in the garden! (Assuming there are no other ingredients in it.)
Please do not use it in the garden, those things are delicious!!! they are also very pricey.

I was kidding, Belle. :)
I just got two trailer loads of seaweed off our beach from the hurricane. I have it stacked for adding to my compost pile, not too worried about salt as it rained over a foot with the storm, and I won't be using this compost bin until next year. Love what it did for my garden this year!
