Thought it was about time to do an update on a three year old thread, this year when planting the beans i use an innoculant on some and not on others the innoculated seeds are 3x as large as the un- innoculated ones nothing scientific about this just an observation
Hyacinth Bean 2012
How did you inoculate and when ?
thanks for the seeds !
And with What! Did u shoot em up with!
My HBs are just starting to bloom. So pretty. I have them planted around three hitching posts.
Grits! Don't you tease and run! How can you inoculate a bean!
you can buy an innoculate at most any farm store it is a bacteria that causes a legume to create more of the nitrogen storing nodes on the roots..about the innoculant it is a variety specific bacteria ..In other words it is not a one size fits all the same bacteria for beans and peas is diferent from say a bacteria for clover ..Now I do see some advertized as an all purpose innoculant,You can buy it at Amazon . com ..Again there are slight differences in how they are applied ..the one I used is a black powder and first you dampen the seeds for this I used a one pint jar and add the approp. amount of powder the directions are on the package shake well and plant soon afterwards as the seeds are now damp and very messy so I wore a latex/nitrile glove the kind my friend uses is sprinkled directly from the can into the furrow prior to planting like he is OCD and like Mr.Monk does not like messy..
Feed stores, gotcha, I will check on this, does your way appear to work better than his?
Okay will try and give an answer that will make some sence, professional soybean growers have used innoculants for many years at one time it was just despenced thru another hopper that was part of the planter then they started mixing it together more or less just as I do now..From what I have now heard the pros now buy seed that is pre innoculated So I don't know if one method is better or worse but I do know it will increase yields
Ok, it was after my time in fields, prob was busy raisin a daughter, thank you for the info, I can check it out for myself with that much of a lead. Fun fun now, chuckl
