We inherited this tree with a house we purchased in February. Obviously, this is some type of fruit, but we have no idea what type. We are in Houston if that helps. The flash changed the color, but the fruit is green with some red. I was thinking pears, but DH said no.
Thanks,
Sheila

Looks like some type of Pear tree to me.
I assume that if they mature into pears that all pears are edible, right?
Yes, they are but the quality varies from cultivar to cultivar. Some have more of a gritty texture than others. You might try contacting the selling agent of your house to see if the previous homeowner can tell you the names of the plants you inherited.
When we sold our previous house, I left a yard map indicating the location and name of all the plants in my garden. In the end, the new owner cut down all the plants and trees, including fruit trees because he wanted an easy care yard. Now it is all grass. I cried. Twenty-two years of gardening and loving care down the drain.
I'm thinking it will turn deep red and be recognizable as a pomegranate....look at end away from the stem.
Unfortunately, the house was a foreclosure, so no help there.
Hadn't thought of pomegranate.
cut one open ....
The leaves don't look like a pomegranate, though. Pomegranate leaves are narrower and clustered together.
It looks like a Pear to me.
I am going to say it is a Keiffer Pear.

Scoll down to the picture third from the bottom of the page. It is young Keiffer Pear fruit.

Yes, that looks like what i have. I did cut one open, but they are so immature that you can't really tell anything.
