Ive been talking to my sister up in Texarkana about native plants for a while now. Today on the highway near her home, she spotted a native plant sale and stopped just as they were closing up shop. she still got some Mexican Hats, Purple coneflower and some Mealy blue sage. She is so excited and Im so excited. She also ran into a friend of hers there who is into native plants and now she knows someone nearby to share plants with. She just retired last year and prior to that, I would give her plants and they would die, repeat. Im trying to get her to sign up for DG so she can find out anything she needs to know about growing the plants. I hope she stays interested in growing them. It would be something else we two could share as well.
New convert to native plant growers!!!
That sounds just wonderful, native plants are so beautiful and so much fun to grow, I hope she will become a native plant collector. I have been on this journey for about 15 years and it is the most fun I have had in a long time.
Congratulations to you and your sister, I hope it will bring you closer together.
Josephine.
Yay!! Recent native convert here also...I love all kind of plants but trying to add more natives. Now to just get my hubby on board...he tells me...hon...that looks like a weed....some people just have no vision, lol
Josephine has converted many of us here to natives!! LOL
Steady, have her check out Josephine's site, too. Lots of great information on natives. http://www.texasstar.org/index.php?pg=main
Thanks everyone. You know, one can lead a horse to water, etc. I hope she gets really interested. I know she will get a lot of satisfaction and joy but you know how, sometimes, it's just not what they are into.
I really never knew about the concept of "native plants" until I came to DG. It just makes alot of sense! I will probably take that into account when I buy or grow future plants. And I'll have to squelch that impulse to buy all the pretties at the different nurseries until I know if they are native or not!
Josephine will have a special crown in Heaven. I, too, have converted to almost 100% natives. Still have a few bananas and elephant ears but they take care of themselves and just keep on trucking.
Oh Christi, you are so nice to say that!! Thank you.
