Saw my first ruby-throat hummers yesterday, but last night saw a different looking hummer at the feeder. After checking my bird book, it looked exactly like the picture of a black-chinned hummer. Is this possible? I know that species is only seen out west, and I'm in Illinois! Even my husband said that's what it was, as it definitely wasn't the ruby-throat. It had a very dark (black) head, and a white band (collar) around the neck. Didn't get close enough to see the purple part. I'm going to watch for it today, and hopefully snap a pic...
