Honey Dew on a trellis?

Central Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Can you or have you ever grown Honey Dew melons on a trellis? I realize they would need to be supported some how, I suppose. But has anyone ever tried here?

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Ive grown mine on a trellis for the past two years. I thought I would have to make a sling for them but never became necessary.

Cool, thanks steadycam3!

I grew Charantais melons on a cattle panel. I did take mesh type onion sacks and sling them from the cattle panel with "S" hooks. Just make sure your trellis is sturdy enough to support the weight of the melons. Good luck!

Thanks podster! I was thinking of using stockings or something of that nature. I have some burlap that may do the trick. Now I need to build the structure and get these darn things planted.

Yes... I'd use what I had laying around, even old pantyhose should work fine. Wishing you success!

Wondering if Dean has pantyhose lying around.....

LOL! It's been so long since I've seen them. My wife may have a few some where. Thanks for the laugh!

LOL ~ I actually did think of that when I posted it... but then I'm not sure I even have any laying around anymore.

Now if someone grews this biggie on a fence then a honeydew should be no problem course the pumpkin stem is a lot stronger ,,With some if not all melons the stem turns loose when they become ripe
