Hi, excited here. Our butterfly habitat is coming along nicely at Lake Tobosofkee.
Can anyone id this butterfly I saw today? I looked but could not find him/her.

Isn't that a Mourning Cloak? I don't get them this far south, but I've seen lots of pictures on Dave's Garden.

They are really pretty satin looking on the dorsal side and sort of rough bark looking on the ventral. This one just eclosed from that nearby chrysalis.
I don't know about your area, but they are one of the responders to the "butterfly brew" here.
Maybe that is what she was attracted to. I had made some brew nearby a week or so earlier. She was getting moisture from the puddle of water in the crushed run here. Yes,,so pretty fuzzy brown.
