I'm thinking of transplanting my 'Black Knight' butterfly bush from an open air perennial bed to a more protected bed up against the foundation of our house. My question relates to the spacing I need between the bush and the perennials I already have. The bed is triangular with 10'x8' straight edges against the foundation/stoop and perennials along the diagonal (walkway). How much (or little) space can I put between the bush and perennials and have the bush grow well.
I have Black-Eyed Susan where it would go. I'm planning on moving them forward, though I'd be willing to replace them with a less aggressive spreader.
What has worked or not worked for those of you with butterfly bushes in perennial beds?
Do I have space to move a butterfly bush?
That's a 5-6 foot spread for that plant, as its a full size butterfly bush. I would plan for at least a five foot space when its matured. Luckily though they're easy to keep pruned
