another plant

East Texas, TX

this was found out on the fence row by my house. my nephew thinks it is this:

as several years ago he had planted a few plants...he thought it had died out. I dug up several and put in my big bed...shall see what it turns out to be:(the pic of mine is included). My cousin showed me some bee balm out behind my grandmother's old homeplace...he said he got some last year and it is the native red....so dug up some of that. if these turn out to be what they say that they are, next year there should be enough either in my beds or in the fields to share with those here who would like some.

It could be Beebalm, but I have never seen any so big and healthy, you could crush a leaf and see if it has that special scent.

it does....so anxiously awaiting to see what they turn out to be too, lol. sometimes waiting on plants to bloom is almost like being a kid at christmas and wondering what is in that package!

oh....and I have pretty good luck using liquid seaweed on my plants. i use a spray broadcaster..makes it super quick and easy.

Yes, that works very well, it looks like you are a very good and loving plant Mom.

Does this plant multiply or will I need to try to root some stems?

If it's bee balm, it will spread.

thank you! what about the salvia guartanica (or black and blue salvia)...does it multiply?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Unfortunately, yes. Of course, if you want it to spread, that's great!

ahhh...it must be a prolific multiplier,lol....that is ok with me...I like it. and my hummingbirds seem to love it.

It doesn't look like my beebalm, nor b & b salvia. It does however look familiar to me. Thinking......

I posted another plant for the salvia....my nephew showed me a pic of the bee balm he thought it was and it did look like it...it was a funny looking bee balm..with light lavender flowers I think. I told hubby I would observe it...let it do it's thing....if it isn't bee balm and I don't like it, then out it will come.

I know what I am reminded of now...indigo salvia. Doubt that is is, but my mind is satisified! LOL!

i don't think that is what it is...the leaves have the bee balm smell....but, glad you were able to come up with what you were studying over...I hate it when I can't pull something up in my brain...cuz, that is all I think about, lol
