"Angel's Summer Dream"

Logee's catalog lists a brug that seems to bloom from branching stems immediately, making a plant about 3 feet [1 meter] tall. What's up? Is this something new? Has anyone grown this? Looks to have the flower form and color a bit like Charles Grimaldi. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks!

Logee's doesn't divulge a cultivar's parentage. All the list of named Brugs Breeding Set says is that it is a versicolor hybrid. I would imagine that what makes the difference in height is the distance between the leaf nodes. The one I had last year was too small to survive the incredible heat, drought and lack of humidity we had last year. I ordered another one and received it this past week. I might be able to give you a better answer in the fall as to its growth pattern.

I have/had the scraggliest Brug shrub in the world. The distance between the nodes is between 2' and 3' so it seems like it takes forever to get just a few blooms out of it in a growing season. I will have to look for it among the survivors to see if it is still alive. I kept it because the single flowers were a gorgeous orange color and the fragrance was wonderful.

Charles Grimaldi's Breeding Set is cubensis which means it contains genetic material from all three of the following: B. aurea, B. sauveolens, and B. versicolor.
