P I Lilies

Rancho Santa Rita, TX(Zone 8a)

P I Lilies - what are they ?

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Philippine Lily - Lilium Philippinenes - Plant Files

Mine can bloom at 1' to 6'

That's was my first thought, too, Philippine Lily. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1050/
Often times called Formosa lily, they're well acclimated to Texas; not as fussy about drainage as other lily species can be. Don't deadhead, when happy, they reseed like crazy. I love them!

Do they attract any types of wildlife ?

bees, birds, butterflies, moths etc

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

When in bloom, I don't want to get near them b/c bees LOVE them!!!
Ike spread them around my 2 ac!!! They have almost taken over my Ginger bed!!! But when you have a bunch & they come into bloom, you can't be ashamed!!!
Absolutely, AWESOME!!!
:~)
PS----- I also have seed pods w/#### to propagate if any of you want!!! Ck out the last pix in the Plant Files!!! That is the best, I can ID with!!!

Arlington, TX

Are they hardy in zone8?

I find sphinx moths are drawn to them, too.
Cheryl, I think the zoning is under estimated in plantflies. They'd do fine in zone 8, mine pulled through some cold winters.
The drought did most of mine in. I do think these need more moisture then other trumpets lilies.
Lilies have a specially adapted roots that are accordion-like, when the soil dries, the specialty roots contract, pulling the bulb and the feeder roots to moisture. If anyone by chance has a need to dig up a Philippine Lily bulb. I would love to see a picture of it, so I can compare the roots with other lilies. It's the geek in me :0)
