Hello everybody --
My name is Patrick (obviously) and I spend nearly all of my time in the dirt. I've been a Master Gardener for some time and a collector of various indoor plants (for me) for 30 years. In my first life I was a software designer for 20+ years but gave that up several years ago for what I do now -- grounds supervisor for a 34 acre condo complex. I make 1/5 the money and have 5 times the joy. Life's too short!!!
I'm 55, married with 2 sons, 27 and 30. For many years I was an orchid grower and tropical fern collector but sold most of those so I could obsess about succulents. No cactus but a lot of haworthias, conophytum and other mesembs, aloes and whatever else I can find - I'm sure all of you know what I mean.
I'm primarily a shade gardener who generally prefers leaves and all their wonder over flowers.
Today has been a rainy day so I've had time to get on the net and join what seems to be a very, very nice group. Since I have a lot of work to do to get ready for winter (I live in east-central Indiana), I'll go plant some trees now. Although not apparent in this blurb, many people say I have sense of humor (even at my own expense), not to mention being funny-looking!
later,
Patrick

Welcome to DG, Patrick! Cooler days will drive more of us indoors, so when the really cold winds start to blow, pull up a really comfy chair to your PC, and you'll find a bunch of us gardening "virtually" around here. Glad to have you here!!!!
Fantastic! Another MG to balance the forums from the weight of this novice! I get all excited knowing there are folks here who actually know what they are talking about! Welcome aboard and bring that sense of humor along for the ride!

Welcome from Ky. You will love it here.
Welcome from Oregon. I like succulents, hope someday to have and outdoor bed of hardy ones, (really hardy since I am in zone 5, hot and dry summers, cold and dry winters). They are so interesting. I don't know too much about them so I may be asking a lot of questions. We are glad to have you with us.
