Photo taken October 2007 somewhere within the K.C. Zoo. I'm thinking genus Ardeotis... Could it be A. kori?

Yep, spot on.

The grey neck distinguishes it from A. nigriceps and A. australis (white neck), and the black collar distinguishes it from A. arabs (collar same pale grey as the neck)
