Sad and a bit mad too

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I was at Lowe's yesterday and they had two huge racks with their "sale" plants. They had many fig trees that were just dehydrated and about to die. I picked up a Celeste fig for $2.50 and immediately potted it. I hope it survives because I love those figs. But it just made me so mad that they didn't take care of those and several other large, nice plants. I understand that little 6-pack annuals may not make it. But those others were really nice and they were just letting them die.
Am I being too sensitive here?? :) If anyone wants a $2.50 fig tree, let me know and I'll see if they still have them--mostly had Kadota and a few Celeste. I also picked up 2 Asiatic lilies, which I've never grown. I may go back for more of them. $2. Janet

Something like that breaks a true
gardeners heart !

Unfortunately the "big box"
places are clueless about plants-
most employees are only temp
& seasonal.

If you are lucky they "might"
have one sorta~kinda knowledgeable
about plants

The best you can do is snap up what
you can & try to save,!

I advise you to put them into the ground.

A lot of the plants in my garden came from the dead rack at Lowe's. Most of them just got skipped in the watering. If you can catch them in time, they recover and do well. I dont remember losing anything I got like that.

We picked up several verbena last week and New Guinea impatient for a quarter each and fig plants were there too. I should have gotten some but didn't. Also picked up 5 wishbone flower for $1 each and they are doing nicely. We planted 3 at our church bed.

Yesterday we went back and got a $2 rudbeckia 'toto'. There were at least 6 or 7 racks filled with plants.
Some one was watering them when we left.

if anyone wants to buy those figs and ship them
to me or bring to burleson RU i'll buy them

We have several but by the time mockingbirds
eat their (lions ) share, there isnt much left for
human consumption, unfortunately !

I am with BB, I love figs and would love some. Since I am closer, if you aren't going to the Burleson RU, maybe I could meet up with you this week and take them.

I can go to the store tomorrow and see if they still have any. How many and does it matter what kind they are?

I'm also going to look for more of those Asiatic lilies I bought :)

I swung by both Lowes in CS and Bryan, didn't come up with 2.50 figs but did get some 4.50 ones that were in great shape. Picked up two brown turkey figs and one black mission fig. Also got 2 large firecracker plants in great shape for 4 each. And the maroon and white Asiatic lilies that had blown their blooms were 2.50 while the others with blooms were around 12. So I thought I would try one. Most of the other stuff was well on its way to dead and too high to rescue.

So I am good on figs right now, thanks,

if it is not extra trouble I would
take one of each

But dont go outta your way !
