I guess I accidentally planted a few shrubs in my yard that are regularly visited by hummers, to my surprise. They love the Fuchsia magellanica var. molinae, Phygelius, Iochroma australe and the fall flowering Heptacodium miconioides. They also seem to like the Lobelia tupa. Sure is nice to sit on the porch and watch them fight over the blooms.
Hummer Shrubs in my garden
It is fun. They adore the turks cap too.
Thanks missingrosie! I didn't even know it was hardy in my zone as all I remember is seeing it in Costa Rica in the rainforest. Didn't expect it to be that hardy. I'll try and find that one as I like it.
The white and red pretty cold hardy - new pinks semi cold ( to zone 7 a maybe??). But so easy to propagate and save for the next season when it will bloom. Likes dry, likes moist. No real care but the deer eat in our region. In fla it grows to a huge shrub and here too in protected area. Native of Texas I believe
At least around here, it has really robust, deep, root systems. So it can freeze to the ground and come back just fine the next spring.
I bet it likes your moisture, though.
